What is Kandyan Style of Art

This style of art was mainly used to decorate temple walls and to educate people with religious stories. Frescos were drawn on walls covered with a white clay after dividing it into horizontal rows. Stories were drawn in Zigzag manner in between lines, separating scenes by trees, rivers or by a house. The pictures of people were drawn in Parshawa Darshi Kramaya [pārśava-darśī-kramaya] , or drawing the faces and legs facing to a side. The background of the frescoes were painted in a dark red color, and filling the blanks with flowers like roses. Mainly used Red, White, Yellow and green colors from natural sources for the pictures.
